A Positive Review of Softbank Air

I saw a lot of negative posts about Softbank Air, so I thought I’d post a positive one. I got mine in the mail a few days ago, and it’s working great, good connection, no issues even at peak times of day. I was originally getting it temporarily while waiting for Softbank Hikari (which wasn’t my first choice, but it was going to be what I could get), but it’s honestly fine, and I think I’m just going to keep it, since I’m fully satisfied and won’t have to deal with IPV6 config.

I certainly doubt it’s the best possible internet–if you can get Nuro hikari, I’m sure it’s probably better–but I’m presumably on 5G, and it works great. I’m able to do any kind of HD streaming, etc with no issues, and I’ve not had any more issues with gaming on US servers than any other internet here in Japan (I’d guess for me, the difference between 160 ping I’m getting and the 150 ping I might be able to get just isn’t a big deal; if you’re gaming within Japan, the difference between 30 ping and 40 ping might be a lot more impactful).

I think Softbank Air might have kind of a bad rap, as people with no other option probably also don’t have great cell/5g infrastructure in their area. However, for me, in central Tokyo, it’s working perfectly well.

I had one of those SoftBank Air before, only good for simple light browsing.
Wait till you hit their data cap, your connection gonna get so slow that YouTube will start to buffer.
