The Japanese philosophy or certain items/places looking similar across media/locations?

I remember reading an article a while back somewhere about how certain items (example: Kappa, lucky mallets, eggplants, etc) will look very, very particular in graphic design/media interpretations in Japan for “ease of understanding/identification.” The article also mentioned how this methodology follows a uniform appearance to certain types of stores/businesses (example: sentos, konbini) and certain items (the shape of rice cookers, fictional turnips, humidifers, etc). I am trying to recall what this philosophy is called or if any essential items are famous for this phenomenon to help me narrow my search.

I know this is a really niche question, but if you happen to know what I’m talking about at all, please help me out.
