Employed remotely outside of Japan while on a student visa

Would I be eligible to get a student visa in Japan in spite being full-time employed in a European country (non-EU)? The job I’m working is fully remote, so I would be able to do it from Japan, without having to relocate my employment contract to Japan in any form. I would simply keep everything as-is in my country while I am in Japan on the student visa.

If the embassy in my country checks my employment status, would that be a deal breaker?

Thanks!

    You would need to be a full time student in Japan to qualify for a student visa. If you request permission to engage in activities outside of the scope of your status of resident you would be allowed to work part time hours. This limitation applies regardless of where your employer is located our how they are paying you.

    If you are working while present in Japan you will owe Japan taxes on the income from that work. Additionally your employer will have certain responsibilities based on Japanese labour laws. You should have a detailed conversation with your employer regarding this plan (as well as reducing your work to part time hours).

  3. u/Benevir covered most of it. Just a small bit of clarification:

    “Part time hours” means no more than 28 hours a week.

    Working more than 28 hours a week is a violation of the terms of the student visa, and could lead to your visa being revoked, you being deported, and possibly being blacklisted from re-entering Japan.

    And they *do* check. The student visa is one of the most abused visas in Japan so immigration keeps a fairly close eye on people using it. While they don’t audit every student every week, it’s not unheard of for students to be required to show immigration a time sheet and/or tax records.

  4. So you are going to work from 6 pm to 2 am Japan time? Then attend school at some point during a 9 am to 5 pm school time frame in Japan time? 何!

    Japan 9am -> UK Midnight

    Japan 5pm -> UK 8 am

    UK 9am -> Japan 6 pm

    UK5pm -> Japan 2 am
