I will be travelling to Japan in April/May this year. I travelled to Japan years ago and used a JR pass during that trip, which was easy and cost effective at the time. I am planning to do so again for this trip, as despite the recent price hike, it is still the most cost effective option for me.
I have started having concerns regarding availability of Shinkansen tickets during Golden Week, and have been told to consider booking my train seats several days in advance. I am going to be doing quite a bit of travel to different cities, sometimes with only a few days in between.
My question is, can you book Shinkansen tickets at any office, for travel between any destinations i.e. If I am in Tokyo, can I book my Shinkansen for my travel between Hiroshima > Osaka at a Tokyo ticket office?
Previously I didn’t have these concerns as I was travelling outside of a busy period. I have been looking into booking Shinkansen tickets before I travel to Japan, but it is a little bit confusing on how to do so (lots of different websites with different instructions?)
