I’ll be coming back to marry my fiancé and live in Osaka for the time being, and want to actively work on my communication skill, half of which is improving my listening.
I was under the impression I had reached a fair level of fluency, but began watching Tokyo Vice the other day after not watching any Japanese programs in a while, and was honestly rattled at the amount of trouble I was having picking out a good number of words (mostly when yakuza affiliated characters were conversing).
I have almost zero issue talking with my fiancé even when Osaka dialect is heavily used, even when she talks relatively quick. But I also used to work in bars a lot and even then often struggled with being able to taken in really slurred Japanese.
I would really appreciate any advice anyone might have on some direct and aggressive strategies to improve ones listening skill.
I’m currently in the states but once I’m back in Japan I plan on actively watching the news and dramas (not my favorite form of media but if its to improve my Japanese skill I’ll eat the bullet)
