Hello everyone! In a few months, I’ll be relocating to Canada to pursue my Masters degree while currently being a full-time employee at a Japanese software company based in Osaka. I mostly work from home. My decision to pursue further studies in Canada is a personal one, and my Japanese employer is currently unaware of my acceptance into the Masters program. I’m interested in continuing my employment with them remotely during my studies in Canada, matching with their working hours. I believe they will be open to it, provided there are no complications related to taxes.
Here’s a bit about my background:
* Nationality: Non-Japanese, Non-Canadian
* Status in Japan: Permanent Resident
* Status in Canada: Student with a 20-hours-per-week open work permit
I’m exploring two potential scenarios and would appreciate any insights or guidance:
**Scenario 1: Keep my full-time contract in Japan, work remotely from Canada. Get paid monthly through my Japanese bank.**
In this case, do I need to adhere to the 20 hours per week limit stipulated by my Canadian work permit?
How would taxes work? and do I have to declare this income in Canada?

**Scenario 2: Submit my resignation in Japan and set up a new 20 hour part-time contract through my company’s Canadian branch office. Get paid through my Canadian bank.**
In this case, can my Japanese wife’s company handle my health insurance and pension payments in Japan? she will still be working in Japan.
Alternatively, would I need to handle the paperwork at the city office to cease payments for health insurance and pension contributions while I’m outside of Japan?

I prefer to continue to pay my health insurance and pension in Japan. Any insights or advice from this awesome community would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
