Hello there,
I’ll be traveling to Japan with my husband and my mom from March 25th to April 10th during the cherry blossom season.
We’ll be going to Tokyo, Fujikawaguchiko, Kyoto (and Nara/Yoshini) and Takayama.
It will be my second time in Japan and last time I was there, I bought a beautiful (dressier?) yukata and an obi belt, which I’ve been thinking of bringing with me. It’s blue and white with painted patterns of orchid flowers and bamboos in purple, blue and white. The obi is a warm shade of purple and fades from a vibrant to a lighter color.
I would love to wear it for visiting some of the cherry blossom festivals held around this time, such as in Ueno Park, Kyoto or Mount Yoshino. I would buy an undershirt and everything else I need to wear it properly if it’s the case.
Would it be appropriate as a foreigner to wear my yukata for these occasions even if it’s not the summer? I’ve been searching it up but most information I’ve found so far was related to yukata in Onsen towns or kimono rentals.
We will also go see the Miyako Odori and have a tea ceremony there. I’ve read that it wouldn’t be appropriate there and that a better choice would be some dressy pants/shirt or a dress. Could someone please confirm this?
I’ve also read that certain prints are suitable for certain age/relationship status or more acceptable depending on the occasion, could you tell me more about this?
Thank you very much in advance for your help 🙏🏼
