I’m a beginner student of Japanese and I may have a chance to visit Japan within the next month. Ideally, it would be a place with friendly people with whom speaking my broken Japanese would be the only option to be understood. Because of the cold time of year, I’m considering Ryukyu Islands. I’ve never been to this area of Japan, but I guess Okinawa Island is far from ideal, because it sees a lot of US military personnel and must be sonewhat fed up with foreigners just like any resort island, I guess? I know my requirements might be self-contradictory, but is there some other island you would recommend for this purpose?
