So I lived in Japan from 2018 to 2020. I got the two year pension exemption and I left in March 2020 and moved to another country. I did all the proper steps with my city hall and company for moving. I asked how can I pay residence tax for 2019 as I was leaving. They asked me if I had a tax representative and I said no. (I did not have anyone and I lived in the super countryside). They could not even tell me how much it would be so that I could pay in advance, so I had no way of paying it and I closed my bank account before leaving.
My question is, will this bar me from visiting as a tourist in Japan? Is there anyway to rectify this without being penalized?
My Japanese isn’t good and I have no idea how to contact someone about this. I asked my old employer and they ignored my email question.
