  1. Shout out to Adrian in Cambridge!

I know £2 a bag isn’t affordable for a lot of people in the UK at the moment, but i do love to support growers who are doing cool things and contributing to biodiversity in UK growing.

For anyone interested: bought at the Growing Communities market in Stoke Newington, London but have seen this farms produce around a lot of farmers markets in the south east, including Cambridge itself!

  2. Nice find. Such a unique flavor– no “back-of-the-cookbook” substitute for it!

  3. I find it growing in alleys and ditches all over Southern Indiana strangely enough

  4. My favorite combo is a little umeboshi between shiso and chicken, preferably as tempura. That or with sashimi! Squid and shiso is delicious.

  5. It’s also surprisingly easy to grow, mine just self-seeds too. i have not planted any in like 2 years and always have a ton come in.

  6. Shiso is an easy-to-cultivate herb.

If you sow seeds in a corner of the garden, the seeds that bloom, bear fruit, and fall will grow naturally the following year.

It can be harvested every year.

Cultivation in a planter is also easy.

    Please give it a try.

  7. Actually really versatile leaf! I had a shiso tea the other day that tasted like the shiso furikake just without the salt. I use it as a substitute for mint sometimes in lemonade or even mixed in with macerated berries

  8. Ive been trying to find red shiso leaves everywhere! Anyone know when those will be in season?

  9. Huge leaves! Herbs are sold in pots here. I can luckily get shiso in my closest supermarket but the leaves are mostly tiny and don’t seem to grow once I get them home either.

  10. Shiso grows like a weed, and very easy to grow from tubs. Give it a go if you want to eat it more often!
