Train use in Japan (Narita)

Hello all,

I will be traveling to Japan twice in 2024. My first trip will be in March and will be for vacation, I plan to be in many places in Japan, such as Fukuoka, Kyoto, Tokyo, etc. As such, I decided I will try to get the JR Pass for a lot of the train travel.

Question 1: When I purchase the JR Pass, will I be hit with a foreign transaction fee on my credit card? (I looked at the JR Pass FAQ and saw nothing)

Next, I will be in Japan in May for a short-term study abroad school program. When I land, I will be in Narita and need to get from Narita to Shinjuku for a day, and then from Shinjuku to Haneda (to meet my school group) the following day.

Question 2: I found this pass: [https://www.jreast.co.jp/multi/en/nex/](https://www.jreast.co.jp/multi/en/nex/)
At this site, I see that I can get from Narita->Shinjuku, which seems like exactly what I want. Correct me if I’m wrong. The question: Is there a foreign transaction fee if I purchase this pass?

Before it is stated: Yes, I have a credit card that has the perk of “no foreign transaction fees” – but I am currently trying to spend up to my required amount on a new credit card to reap the introductory benefit of free points if I spend a certain amount in 6 months, and that card will charge foreign transaction fees.

Thank you for all posted advice. Appreciate all responses.
