***UPDATE***
I have thoroughly investigated the balcony and assessed every possible thing it could have been (gas box, vent, escape door) and all of the items are really securely bolted down, the only thing that could have been making the noise was the emergency hatch on my balcony floor or the floor above me (which I can see as I’m directly under it). The door of the hatch is really heavy and wouldn’t be able to be moved by he wind, I also looked inside and there is significant dust on the interior which means it couldn’t have been the person below me. I will see what happens tonight..

Earlier this morning I woke up to noises on my balcony, as I was too scared to open the blinds, it sounded like someone was trying to open the emergency hatch on the balcony. I’m not sure if it was the apartment above or below me. From about 5:30 until the sun came up I could hear a lot of noises like movement in one of the neighbouring apartments. Which is really strange because I very rarely hear anything in this apartment block as the walls are so thick. Has anyone had something similar happen? Any recommendations for how I can make sure my apartment is extra secure? Especially the emergency hatch..
