I’ve been trying to get the documents in Japan for Australian citizenship by decent. And been getting all the documents ready. Got the identity declaration, which took ages. But its been almost 6months so Ineed to apply citizenship, as I read its (and the photo) are only good for 6months..
Just wondering any Australian parents, living in Japan had any experience with Doing Australian citizenship for your kids online in Japan?
Translation for Japanese documents.
I was think, I only need, Two things?
1.Wife’s Koseki Tohon 2. My resident card.
Did anyone use any other Japanese documents for their children?
And nunber 2, did you use a official NAATI for the translation?
Plus I have to get a new resident card soon, in a few months. So I hope they wont ask again.. which means I might have to get another translation of it..
And another question. Has nyone had any problems? Getting Japanese passport for their children. After obtaining Australian citizenship?
Thanks!

I recently did the citizenship by descent and then passport application for my second child (JP/AU) born in Japan.
The photo is supposed to be within the past 6 months, but they have no way of knowing that… is your koseki, etc. within the past 6 months?
As for the documents, I translated my wife’s Koseki and my driver’s license myself, then got my friend to sign it and put his contact details (as a “professional translator”), and I submitted it as a scanned PDF. The application went through with no problems. I did the same thing for my first child a few years ago.
But the passport office is stricter with the translation requirements – e-mail/PDF is no good, they want a printed, stamped translation. So I actually had to get a translation agency here in Japan (doesn’t need to be NAATI certified) to proofread/verify my translation and affix their stamp to a printed copy.
Approval of the citizenship took around 3 months, then it took another 4-5 weeks to get the passport when I applied for that.
