I am looking to purchase a property in Japan and would need to convert USD from my US bank. Wells Fargo’s exchange rate is very poor and I would save close to $10000 in currency conversion fees by using XE or Wise, however, since the amount is almost $150,000, I am not sure if I can fully trust either of those options to deliver the funds on time without a bunch of headaches since I haven’t used either before and wise isn’t FDIC insured.
Does anyone have any experience using either of these 2 services for large transfers?
Does anyone recommend a US bank accounts that I can hold Yen currency in and send wire transfers from?
I will be in Japan tomorrow so am also open to suggestions for banks in Japan that allow non residents open bank accounts, ideally in USD and Yen.
Any other safe suggestions on how to get the best rate for USD to Yen would be appreciated.
