  1. The government has tried in the past to disincentivize people moving to Tokyo, it didn’t work. Increased population in Tokyo will also put even more downward pressure on birth rates as Tokyo has one of the lowest birth rates in the country.

  2. If you look at the graphs, it’s Kanagawa that seems to outperform with more total inflow than Tokyo in the 2020 to 2023 time frame.

    All of the government’s incentives to not move to Tokyo have been so crap anyone with three funcioning neurons could have predicted they wouldn’t have worked.

  4. Because companies went back on their word for remote work “diverse work styles” after COVID (the 60 year old bosses couldn’t hack it), so it was either move back and show up in the office, or find a new job in the sticks.
