Renting an older Japanese house. Good idea?

Hi guys.

I am sick of Japanese apartments.

I’ve been looking at Japanese houses for rent using the “一戸建て” search function on real-estate websites like sumo. There are quite a number of older homes built in the 70-80s available for rent. These houses often have reformed interiors (modern bath, kitchen, new flooring, etc).

I noticed that Japanese houses are built really close together and are all wood construction. How well do these older houses block outside noise? Am I going to go crazy listening to my neighbors?

Is there anything I should be cautious about when renting a Japanese home?
