Is not knowing Kansai-ben a dealbreaker for part time employers?

Hey all, just moved to Kyoto for studies. My Japanese level isn’t perfect (about N4-N3 level) but I can handle a short 1 to 1 conversation and can recognize more than 2000 Kanji. I’ve been trying to get a part time job as a way to improve my Japanese but so far no luck.

I’ve been to 2 job interviews so far (konbini and izakaya) and one question that I got asked at both interviews was if I understood Kansai-ben, which I replied no. They didn’t seem pleased with that answer and I didn’t get any callback after a week. I’m sure there are other reasons I got rejected but it makes me curious if Kansai-ben is a must have for part time work in Kyoto.

Also how does one learn Kansai-ben other than speaking with locals?
