Hello everyoneI’m going to Japan for 19 days in May with my girlfriend. Here’s the itinerary we’ve decided on so far. I’m waiting for your opinions to see if we need to rework it (we may have added too many things).

Arriving at Kansai Airport on May 1st at 8pmSpend the night near the airport in order to leave the next morning.
Fly out from Kansai to Tokyo at 7am on May 2nd
(We arrive in Osaka because tickets were much cheaper than Tokyo. As we’re arriving during Golden Week, we think it’s smarter to go straight to Tokyo rather than start in Kansai, which is likely to be overcrowded.)
Tokyo: May 2 to May 6
We were thinking of doing a round trip to Nikko on one of these days, but I think it’s going to be too tiring.
Departure on May 6 for Kamakura, where we’ll stay one night.
From May 7 to 9, we’ll stay in Hakone
On May 9, we’ll head straight for Nara, where we’ll spend the day and the night.
On May 10, we’ll leave Nara for Hiroshima, where we’ll spend the night.
On May 11, we’ll leave Hiroshima for Kyoto.
We’ll be staying in Kyoto from May 11 to May 15 (to take advantage of the May 15 festival).
On the evening of May 15, we’ll spend the night in Osaka before setting off the next day for Mount Koya.
We’ll sleep at Mount Koya on the 16th before returning to Osaka on the evening of the 17th.
Then we’ll spend the last two days in Osaka before boarding the plane again on the evening of the 19th.
Do you think we’re being too ambitious for a 1st trip to Japan? Does it make sense? We figure it’s better to stay in Tokyo during Golden Week and be in Kyoto on May 15. From there, we worked the itinerary around it.
I used the JR Calculator and even with this itinerary, it seems to me that the JR Pass is not profitable unfortunately… We may use the Kansai-Hiroshima Pass from (5days) in order to travel from Nara to Hiroshima and Hiroshima to Kyoto.
Thanks for your help 🙂
