Hey everyone! I’m having a hard time finding my specific situation on this subreddit, so I figured I’d make a post.
My spouse (Japanese citizen) and I (USA resident) got married in Japan last month. I’m currently in the USA. We want to get me moved to Japan as quickly as possible. I’ve seen people switch from a tourist visa to a spousal visa, but they were already on a tourist visa and then got married. Would it be possible to go to Japan on a tourist visa, then apply for a change to a spousal visa if we are already married?
I know it might be easier to just apply for the spousal visa, but 1. I recently graduated and left my job so it makes sense for me to move other there ASAP and 2. We are sick of long distance :/
Side Notes: Proving the relationship shouldn’t be difficult. We’ve been together 4 years.
She has a job in Japan making around ¥244000/month.
Her parents are willing to sponsor if they have to.
She is currently visiting me in the US.
