Work Life in Japan as a Foreigner (specially Software Engineers)

I have been working as a Software Engineer for more than a year now in Japan. At first I had development tasks mainly so language was no big issue.

But now I have got into a team following the waterfall development pattern. And there is a lot of documentation (from 対応概要書) going on. Seems like the documentation phase is longer than any other development , testing or maintenance phases. I have passed JLPT N3 but still it’s difficult to read business level documentation. And I don’t have time to study and improve my Japanese after work since I have to work long hours to read and create documents using the translator.

Any other foreigners in the same situation? Any methods you are using to improve Japanese or make work faster?

Any opinions will be helpful. Thanks

  1. Get a new job? Plenty of places out there do not require JP language skill and might be more agile (and more modern in general)
