I’ve been trying to research the density of roach infestations in Japan but every website pretty much just describes it as “bad”. I am from southern USA and see maybe 4 of them a year, but measures can be taken here to ensure I NEVER encounter one. My question is, how would the roach situation in Japan compare to America? I can’t seem to find a comparison. I have a pretty heavy phobia and am reluctant to make any moves without knowing an in-depth explanation for the situation from someone living in multiple areas. If it’s not too much trouble, I also can’t find information on things like:
\- Where in Japan am I less likely to see roaches or have them in my house?
\- What areas should I avoid at all costs?
\- Are they different in size/appearance/danger level/intelligence (no pictures please.)?
\- Is extermination similar to US customs? Do you think I could ask an exterminator to fortify my house against them and bring my chances of encountering one to nearly zero?
Thank you all in advance.

Edited to add: I have my eye on countryside houses in Tohoku region, maybe Kanto, if that helps.
