What do to with a bad Laptop?

Hello,

so I just had to replace my laptop battery because it started to swell up. Yes, I already drained to 0% basically to lower it’s energy potential.

Anyways, my ku does not take old batteries so I am wondering what can I do with it. Does anyone knows if a place like BicCamera would take it? I mean, at this point is just potentially dangerous trash so I want to throw it away.

Thank you

  1. If you bought your laptop here in Japan you already paid for the disposal – it was one of the documents you got with the laptop. If you don’t have that paper (and who does?) you can check your manufacturers web site or call them.

You give them the laptop ID/part number; they look it up to see that it’s covered, and will likely send you a box or a prepaid shipping label for you to use to ship it back to them.

  2. All BIC Camera and Nojima stores (major stores at least) have a battery recycling/disposal bin. Since your laptop battery is swollen, I would hand it to one of the clerks to avoid any fire hazard problems. Apparently swollen batteries require special handling.

  3. I suggest sternly but fairly disciplining the bad laptop. Set reasonable boundaries for it with clear consequences if it crosses those boundaries. Repeat until it’s behavior improves. But remember, consistency is key.
