10 Course Off-Menu Omakase Lunch at Sushi Murayama – Honolulu, HI

I never really post, but I think this chef and restaurant are criminally underrated. This is Sushi Muruyama in Honolulu, Hawaii.

One Japanese-born chef and two Japanese assistants in a small 6ish table restaurant and small sushi bar seating. This place is almost always empty at lunch, but picks up during dinner. Really fresh fish flown in daily from Japan. Not cheap, but incredibly cheap for the quality and level of skill you’re getting. They do traditional sushi service, omakase dinner, etc.

I’d like to think that I know a little bit about sushi. My family owns one of the largest international development firms in the US with offices on 4 continents (and one in Japan) so I’ve eaten pretty much every “must have” sushi there and the Michelin spots around the world. I’m not saying this is exactly that experience, but it’s extremely good and well executed and, to me, deserves mention with some of those masters at a much more approachable price point.

Please if you are in the area go give this guy some love! It will be an incredible dining experience and you’ll be supporting a true artisan who really cares about the craft.
