I am learning English and Japanese at the same time, with N2 level in Japanese and CET-4 level in English.
I found that for the same passage, I can scan the English text like Chinese and get the gist,
but for Japanese text, if it is not a formal style like news (news have more kanji,as a chinese,it is easy), I have to read each kana out loud to understand the meaning.
1. Kanji + kana suffix（食べる、食べて、食べたい、食べない）, I have to read the kana suffix to know the tense.
2. Loanwords, I have to read them out to guess the corresponding English word.
For example, compare the English and Japanese settings menu in a game:
Status: ステータス
Data: データ
Save: セーブ
Load: ロード
Config: コンフィグ
Message: メッセージ
Game: ゲーム
Title: タイトル
Prologue: プロローグ
Obviously, the left side is easy to understand at a glance, but the right side, even if you have learned them, you have to read them slowly to realize, they do not have the obvious recognition and contour sense of English words.
Even for high-frequency sentences like “おはようございます、いらしゃいませ” , I have to read them once to react（oh！I Got it）.
Is it a congenital defect of Japanese, or is my level not enough, too dependent on pronunciation? Are there any high-level friends who can tell me, can your Japanese do a quick scan and get the idea (except for news)?
