Hi, we will be staying in Aomori for 5 days in late April, in time for the sakura season. I’ve been reading a lot about the Resort Shirakami, and I just want to ask, Is it practical and worth it to do Aomori-Akita-Aomori in 1 day just sitting on the joyful train? Or maybe take the Aomori-Akita joyful train and ride a local express train back to Aomori?

No, not feasible to do a round trip in 1 day. I took it from Aomori to Akita, stayed 1 night there, and then continued back to Tokyo.
