With the news of Okada leaving and NJPW now having a lot of salary freed up, who from Japan do you want them to sign?

Dream: Daisuke Sekimoto before the hosses are all gone we need big matches in NJPW/

Katsuhiko Nakajima… he feels right in NJPW.

Kaito Kiyomiya replacing Okada in Chaos

Konosuke Takeshita replacing Okada in Chaos if the go back to villainy…

Saito Brothers… the size, the look the backstory… really would help NJPW’s tag team division.

Jacob Fatu – Self explanitory.

  1. Got some bad news on two of those. Konosuke Takeshita is signed to AEW and Jacob Fatu is signed to MLW.

  2. I’m still in disbelief that Okada is actually leaving…

But, I’d love for NJPW to sign Katsuhiko Nakajima. I’d also love to see Kenoh, but NOAH needs him rn. Non-obvious choice would be someone like Shun Skywalker as he’d be a ton of fun.

  3. Nobody over thirty five that isn’t already with the company. Only in the past year have they finally started going away from the older wrestlers and embracing the youth movement. Once Naito drops the title to whoever is going to lose it to Shota/Tsuji, New Japan can really kick the rebuild (to use the sports term) into high gear and truly turn the page into the next chapter of company history. As far as who I’d get:

    – Lock up all of War Dogs long term

    – Get Kiyomiya and start his build up

    – Get some tag teams to flesh out the junior and tag team divisions

    – Get some youngish Japanese heels

    – Fill out the junior division with full timers

If they play their cards right they can have a top of the card looking like:

    Faces:

    Shota, Tsuji, Kiyomiya, Sanada, ZSJ

    Heels:

    Gabe Kidd, Evil, Narita

If you build them all properly that’ll be nine people that can credibly hold the main title. You also have people like Takagi and maybe a Goto legacy run that can step in like a Moxley in AEW in a pinch. New Japan hasn’t had that many credible main eventers in a very long time.

Build your juniors around Akira, Fujita, and Drilla and you’ll be set for the next decade in both your divisions.

  4. Nakajima is a freelancer, so he’s available to sign right now. He’s worked NJPW in the past, has a style that fits right in, and is a reasonably big star. It’d be a no brainer signing for someone who’d immediately walk into the upper mid card and could be a main eventer by the end of the year.

Kiyomiya makes the most sense, but I don’t want New Japan acting like temper tantrum Tiny and raiding partner promotions. If Kiyomiya is actively looking to leave NOAH, then he’s a no brainer signing too. Unfortunately, he’s been booked like a geek in NJPW, so they’d need some time to rehab him, but he has all the potential to be the ace for the next decade.

Shun Skywalker has the potential to be a main event heel, but I don’t know what his contract situation is like with DG or if he’d want to leave.

Someone they could also sign right now is SB Kento. Tons of potential to be a junior ace, and I believe he’s still exiled to Mexico following his departure from DG.

  5. Leaving aside the fact that he’s on a dual DDT/AEW contract, thinking Takeshita would be a suitable replacement for Okada is crazy; he’s an incredible wrestler but he’s never been a draw in Japan.

  6. I really don’t get the Saito Brothers. Yeah they have great size, but they just always look so awkward out there to me.

  7. If they have any sense they’ll use the funds freed from Okada’s salary and use it to renew other expiring contracts like Kidd, Conners etc
