Hiii, so I’m going to be travelling to Japan in a few weeks as part of a small group. We all feel a bit lost with how the trains (and other public transport methods) work because it seems so different to travelling around London (where we live). I was just hoping to get some advice on what types of travel passes or tickets we should or shouldn’t get based on our plans and where we should purchase them:
● We land in Tokyo (Haneda) on Sunday 10th but we need to get to our hotel in Osaka. We’ll need to carry our luggage with us on whatever train we get (hopefully the shinkansen because it’s faster for such a long journey). How would I book something like that considering that my flight might be delayed or something else happens?
● We are staying in Osaka for a week. Is there a some kind of pass that covers all or most trains in the city so we can travel freely anywhere without thinking too much for the week we are there? (like a Travelcard in London if you know that)
● During the stay in Osaka we want to make a day trip to Kyoto and travel around there very freely too because there’s so much to see spread out over the city
● Less important but if possible it’d be nice to make another day trip to Kobe/Himeji
● After a week we want to catch the shinkansen back to Tokyo (on the 16th) and we’re going to stay there for a week.
● Is there another pass that can cover all of Tokyo to travel very freely there too until we leave (via Haneda on the 24th)
Please note that when I say train I’m also referring to the underground kind. I’m also open to buses to travel around for small journeys inside cities (but less so between cities).
Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated!! ☺️ And I hope you have a nice day!
