Hi guys.
I recently got a job as a digital marketing manager at Dentsu international (subsidiary of Dentsu Japan). I am a UK citizen and to provide some background after years of pain and seperation I got my Japanese husband a visa for the UK (spouse visa) he came here for a few months but sadly as we just started to settle down, due to unforeseen circumstances he has had to return to Japan to care for sick family members for the foreseeable. (Painful to go back into a LDR after a 2 year sepearation).
Ofcourse I can go visit a few times a year. But ideal would be to stay longer through working remotely (which my company allows for up to 30 days for tax purposes).
I have heard a digital nomad visa may be in the works for around April time but theres no information yet on how to apply, requirements, costs, length of visa etc etc.
Sadly as we are in a gay marriage our marriage is not legal in Japan so we cannot go the spouse visa route to get me there.
The only other option I can see is the HSVP. I do however have a few questions. Firstly. I will wait until I pass probation before bringing this up with my company so around Feb time. When I do bring this up how should I approach this? I want to stay on a UK salary, ideally avoid double tax, ideally still work for the UK company and not the Japan one with the Japanese work culture (plus I dont speak Japanese….. yet and the head office is Tokyo whilst my partner is Fukuoka). Do I need much help from my employer such as them to hire me through the Japanese part of the company Dentsu Japan? Or can I do it all without their help. It is so confusing.
I won’t leave my job for an English teacher job as many do, as I am the first in my family to achieve a salary job rather than factory work/shop work, and I am on a good wage providing some stability in our lives at the moment (£37k north UK), plus I take great pride in my work and see opportunities to progress further.
It is crazy after a few years battle to get my husband a visa for the UK (and crazy cost) we are now potentially about to do the same for me and not use his visa. But that is lifes adventure.
Regardless of visas. I will go up around March April time for a month ish to help support my partner and see him as it will have been another 6 months apart at that point.
Any and all advice is appreciated.
You are only getting a small snippet of our story here so feel free to ask questions.
Thanks so much guys.
