1. Kumo 雲 vs. Kuraudo クラウド

   Hello I’m very confused because I’m being told by different translators that these both mean cloud. Can anyone please explain the differences if there are any.

2. Is it a good idea to spend 1 hours a day practicing hiragana to learn?

3. Seeking advice on overcoming my mental block with speaking Japanese.

   Background: I’ve been living in Japan for a total of 6.5 years, spread out over the last decade. I attend Japanese classes three times a week, and although I’m seeing improvements in all aspects of my Japanese proficiency, my speaking remains a challenge. Strangely, I find it difficult to verbalize the words and sentences that I construct in my head. On the flip side, my listening skills are strong (thanks to my Japanese wife and years of living here), and my reading and writing abilities are excellent. Currently, I’m a stay-at-home dad pursuing online schooling, which means I don’t have many opportunities to leave the house and practice speaking Japanese. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

4. in this book, the main character is talking about how his friend is so likable compared to himself

   then he thinks this:

   > まあ、愛想というものは母の胎内に置いてきたような無愛想なやつだが。

   is this basically:

   “Talking about likability, it’s like I’m an unfriendly guy who was left in his mother’s womb”

   similar to, “won’t get out of his shell”

5. my class lesson has a few segments. at the end, students work on their reading assignments, reading aloud the book they chose. a note from the teacher was, “do you look up the words that you don’t know?” the tone was a neutral one, but enough to be inquisitive and as if to say, “please go look up the words you don’t know.”

   that affected me on a few ways. 1. Acceptance – yes and that would help me learn vocabulary quicker. It will help in comprehending the passage I’m reading. 2. Confusion/Affronted – my current strategy is to only look up words that I feel has high relevance in real world. And, I only look up new words that pop up second, third time in the same passage.

   1 and 2 are conflicting emotions for me and I try to strike a balance while I’m in learn japanese mode. It’s straining at the moment given my short attention span/concentration level during these activities. What’s your advice on reading comprehension/looking up words?

6. I’m trying to understand the difference between the く and くて form in い adjectives. From reading an article in Tofugu, it seemmed that both of them are used in the same way, but it doesn’t seem like. A friend of mine said that く is used when we are turning the adjectives into adverbs, and I get it. My problem is when trying to use them with two adjectives. I can’t figure out what the difference is between:

   ペンが赤くて欲しい and ペンが赤く欲しい.
   [The pen want to be red]

   or

   ペンが赤くなりたい and ペンが赤くてなりたい
   [Pen want to turn red]

   If someone could help me, I would be pleased!

7. Hello!

   I came across this sentence during reviewing previous chapters of Genki before continuing on. And I just noticed it now.

   For the sentence, 一緒にやりましょうか, why is に used not を? In the Genki vocab section, it tells you are suppose to use を.

   Can both を and に be used? If so, how do I know which one to use when I’m using the verb やる?

9. In English speaking community on the internet, when new Anime episodes are airing you see them being discussed on reddit, them even having a specific thread to discuss each episode.

   There’s also the comment sections in the streaming website for every episode, where all the viewers can express their thoughts about the episode and interact with the other viewers, etc…

   Is there a similar website like these for Japanese people?
