I have been studying Japanese for a span of time, and currently have around 800 Cards in Anki… To say that the experience is traumatizing, would be an understatement. When I first started learning, I was so eager to learn and acquire new vocab, and for the first few hundred Cards, everything was running “smoothly”, but as I slowly inch toward the 1k “benchmark”, the Garden of Joy has degenerated into a Valley of Tears.
I know that some may argue that I’m going “too fast”, but the way I see it, even if I limited my new Cards to just 5 a day (which would feel like torture in its own right, to me), I would eventually end up right back in this exact position in a few months/years (I have heard of some who have amassed as many as 10k Cards in Anki, for reference)
I love learning new words, and Anki has helped me to significantly improve my reading abilities, however I feel like with each new word I add into the Deck at this point, I am sacrificing a small piece of my soul to facilitate it.
For those of you with hundreds (or thousands) of Anki Cards, how do you manage to keep your sanity?
