Hello! My fiance’s family is Japanese and wants to send us (who live in United States), money for our wedding. They are worried about a 20% tax that may be payable on amounts they transfer to us? My fiance is a Japanese and U.S. citizen. Does anyone know what tax this is (Japanese gift tax maybe), and if it would even apply in this situation?
