Recommended toy shops for young kids?

I want to do some gift shopping for my very young nieces (less than five years old). I’ve had a tough time finding shops that have suitable toys. Isetan’s toy area in Shinjuku is the best I’ve seen so far.

Reddit, can you recommend anywhere to find suitable toys for young kids, especially toys that are cognitively engaging and language agnostic?

Thanks so much!

  1. Kiddy Land in Harajuku/Omotesando is great. It is a lot of character goods. But sometimes they are great for kids. Even foreign kids. Summikogurashi すみっコぐらし is great will all ages.

  2. Hakuhinkan Toy Park in Ginza is nice.

There’s also a dedicated toy shop opposite Ueno Station, which I can never remember the name of.

There are also toy depts in most Yodobashi Cameras and Bic Cameras. The larger stores obviously have a better selection.

Aeon and Ito Yokado usually have a toy section.

For extremely young children, Akachan Honpo has toys.

  3. The Rise department store in Futagotama has a kiddie land, a lego store, a book shop that has a kids section, and a sort of sciencey toy shop. Not all language agnostic, but most of it is.
