Where to buy wafuku?

I’m headed to Kyoto for the Gion matsuri and keen to buy a yukata, obi and some geta but don’t want to pay too much. I’ve read that Harajuku Chicago or Don Quijote are good places to start, does anybody have any recommendations for where to pick up decent wafuku on a budget? Looking to pay under 18,000 yen for the lot of possible?

  1. for Kimono in Kyoto, I like this shop. It’s out of the way, usually not busy and you can get everything for less than 10,000 if you pick only from their bargain section. Down side is there is no set and you will neem to choose each piece.

As for Gion Matsuri…You are aware last weekend was the main festival weekend, right?

  2. I visited Kyoto for the 17th parade day. My friend over in Kyoto recommended me this shop:

    Yuusai

    567 Kikusuibokocho

    Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto 604-8154

Went there in the morning after arriving from Okayama, and bought most of what you would need to wear yukata at very reasonable prices. Yukata are usually cheaper than kimono at base since they are made of cotton.

The yukata I bought was 2000 JPY, and I also bought an obi and the tie for the actual Yukata (which is hidden by the obi). I did not buy Geta as I opted to wear my own shoes for that day.

I remember all three components totaled me at 3750-4000 yen.

It’s worth noting I am a man (not sure if there is price differences buying male or female yukata)

  3. Here is the couple Matsumashi that does yukata by themself: [https://goo.gl/maps/nAppp83jVTDTojv16](https://goo.gl/maps/nAppp83jVTDTojv16). I bought my Yukata for 5800ï¿¥and I find it good quality. It is really a little shop, they only speak Japanese but they are very kind and when you enter the shop, you can see the workshops and machines (pretty cool). They also sell kimono and everything, you might need to check.

However, you’ll need to call them before you go to their shop because I don’t know when they open.
