I’m headed to Tokyo later this week for the first leg of a business trip. I will only be in Japan from Friday to Monday. I realize this question is asked here ad nauseum and have done quite a bit a research, but wanted to get some advice for my specific situation. I’m wondering which of my options (or combinations) are the best move to avoid getting railed with fees/shitty exchange rates:
\- Option 1: Credit Card with foreign exchange fee: I’d love to just use a CC with no foreign exchange fee, but unfortunately both of my CREDIT cards have 3% fees per transaction. So will not be using either ideally
\- Option 2: 2 Visa Debit Cards, each with 1% international transaction fee. Plus $1 or $2 out of network ATM fee
\- Option 3: Digital Wise Card. Again, my trip is later this week so I don’t have time to receive a physical card, and I’ve read that using the virtual/iphone card may be an issue. I also don’t really understand their fee schedule and wonder if I’d be getting shafted.
\-Option 4: Bring a fat wad of cash (relatively speaking) and exchange it either at Haneda or Ninja Exchange Shinjuku. I’ve read that these 2 offer the most competitive exchange rates.
Any help here is much appreciated. Thank you!
