Cancelling Internet Experiences?

Kind of hoping someone would know or have gone through this; I’ll lay out the timeline below.

* I moved into a new place a few months ago, and transferred my service from the old apartment to the new apartment. All is good.
* My new place suddenly got free internet installed, and it works fine, so I cancelled the internet service I transferred over.
* The provider told me that they would need someone to come out and remove the wiring since I’m cancelling. No way around that.

My concerns/questions are:

1) If I don’t like the new, free internet anymore, I have to pay to reinstall the cables with a new provider?

2) If I never transferred and cancelled, I wouldn’t have had to get the cables removed, which means I could have signed up for the same, or another provider, and just “connect it to the wall”?

3) If anyone knows, why do they have to remove the cables? Its not like I can just buy my own modem/router and connected it to the wall to use their service for free?

4) The cables were here when I moved in, so would it be an issue for the future when I move out?

Any experience/comments appreciated. Thank you.
