Concerns over fake items on Amazon.jp?

I know that Amazon stores in the US are filled with counterfeit products, since Amazon will let basically anybody sell anything as anything.

I’m wondering if the same problem also occurs on Amazon.jp ?

Anybody got any info? Thanks.

  1. about 3 years ago I bought a pair of Air Jordan 11 Concord n Amazon JP , once they arrived they were a little off , I am in the sneaker game here in Japan so I kinda know my way around it , they were fake , they were like really good fakes and I wouldn’t have cared if I didn’t pay 350 usd for them . I messaged Amazon customer service which didn’t do Jacksh*t and told me to message the store directly through Amazon , they store refunded me after I sent the goods back but amazon was like AIGHT this aint my problem lol . Same shit happened n Rakuten not ” RAKUMA ” but Rakuten , it was a store with good reviews and stuff and they sent me fake shoes so yeah , I think that as long as you have no proof that the items are fake Amazon wont move a finger so be careful chief.

  2. Yeah you can use sites like https://sakura-checker.jp/ where you can confirm if a particular item is dodgy or not.

And yes, amazon is full of questionable chinese junk. I generally limit my purchases to prime-only, delivered next/following day items.

  3. You can use a sakura checker like [https://sakura-checker.jp](https://sakura-checker.jp) and paste in the link of the product page on Amazon.

IIRC it doesn’t have a specific metric to determine if an item is counterfeit or not but it does look at the shop ratings, price trends, product ratings and others.

The site has been pretty useful for me in the past when I’ve looked at items which seemingly have a high rating but no comments etc (I know some stores offer a voucher to use next time if you give them a 5 stars rating)

  4. There are a bunch of fake brands in Amazon.jp from China, as well as fake reviews. So, unless you already have specific brands in your mind, be careful.

That said, there are decent products amongst those unknown brands. And according to my in-game Chinese friend who actually writes these reviews, if you ever get a bad product like later it’s broken, they’d rather refund your money back as they don’t want bad reviews so you should tell them for refunds.

  5. Read the reviews carefully, and the seller’s feedback.

We’ve only been kicked in the balls once, with some stupid “officual”(sic) Apple Thunderpants charging cables some years back.

The stupid thing is, they *looked* nice enough. But shit, it’d be even better if the fakers made stuff that not only looked nice, but worked too, the cheeky buggers.

  6. A few things I noticed with sellers in Japan are:
Sellers don’t hold any of the stock listed & sells at 10x the price. When you order they get it from the US & send it to you.
Sellers selling items listed made in the US but they send you the same version from Asia (Thailand, Vietnam)

  7. Yes. I got a Dyson Air Wrap as a gift, bought off Amazon.jp for a slight discount. I was unable to register the serial number, and one of the parts broke within a week of usage. I then found out the seller was a company located in Belarus which was already defunct on the Amazon website when we went back to check. What a waste of money, all just to try to save a few 1000 yen.

Now I only buy stuff that seems to be listed by the original company itself (if they have a “storefront” page on the site) or things that would make less sense to rep such as detergent lol. Absolutely nothing expensive / branded. But since the fake junk seems to increase by the day, I’m considering cancelling Prime and just dealing with getting things local- even if it’s sometimes inconvenient.
