Hello!
This community has been so incredibly helpful in planning out our trip. So far I’ve planned out the majority of our itinerary for our upcoming Japan spring adventure, but I’d love to get some suggestions and opinions on things that cover the more tech, gaming, and anime culture in Tokyo. My husband is very into all of that. I’m not really into much of it. He doesn’t really have time or the desire to plan stuff that he’d be into as he’s more go with the flow, but I (being very much Type A), want to make sure he doesn’t miss out on key things that he’d really enjoy and hopefully I’d be somewhat into.
I had a few questions to help me curate our adventures a little better. Thanks in advanced for any responses!
**1.** Gundam Factory: **TL/DR:** Better to see the shows at night or during daylight?
**Full Question/Info:**
Our debate is whether to see the Gundam movement show during daylight (5:20pm Startup Experiment) or after the sun has gone down (6:20pm show Awakening full version ). I’m leaning towards night so we can see the lights. He had more of a preference for the day. Is it worthwhile to see both? We are not planning on buying tix as he doesn’t really care to see the more in-depth aspects of this with the launchpad. We will be going on the second to last Saturday during Spring Break so it’ll probably be very busy. Would tickets be better?
**2.** TeamLab: **TL/DR:** Planets vs Borderless on Monday April 1st
**Full Question/Info**
This would be on the tail end of our trip so we’d be going after we get back from Osaka (flight arrives at 11:40am, no checked luggage, and hotel is 3 minutes away by train). Allowing time to drop off our backpacks and freshen up, maybe grab a quick bite and travel (probably by taxi as it’ll save almost half an hour) would get us to exhibit around 1pm or 2pm at the very latest.
Here’s a breakdown on why each of us does and doesn’t want each exhibit. For reference, we will be visiting the one in Osaka the night before (already have tix)
* Planets: My initial idea is Planets and then explore Odaiba the rest of the day. I like the idea of the smaller experience, the water elements, and overall it seems to be a bit more laid back. I also like that we’d be in Odaiba area and there’s a lot of other stuff to do. Maybe do an escape room or adventure at the updated Immersive Fort Tokyo and see the Gundam Unicorn.
* Borderless: He likes the idea of this one as it’s bigger and you don’t have to take your shoes off. Why I don’t care for it: The videos I’ve seen of the new Borderless shows it to be very heavily focused on video projections which I’m not that excited about. Based on reviews of the original Borderless, there seems to be more of a focus on selfies and lots of kids running around. Not sure if it’s still like that. I also think Borderless will likely be busier as it’s now new and shiny since reopening. I’m also not too sure what we’d do for the rest of our day in that area. If Borderless, any recommendations for that area in Tokyo? We don’t really have anything planned for that part of Tokyo.
**3.** Akihabara: **TL/DR:** Is it better to roam freely, or to have key things on itinerary? Any recommended places to decompress for non-geeky ppl that need a break while their husbands shop till they drop?
**Full Question/Info:**
* Are there specific places we absolutely must do/see? Or are we fine just meandering about, choose your own adventure style, and walking into places in this area for anime/gaming culture?
* Are there any favorite places people have they’d like to suggest? I added Super Potato to our google map and a few things I saw on instagram, but I know instagram suggestions can be a little hit or miss sometimes.
* Are there any places in Akihabara I can go and decompress while he’s in full anime/video game souvenir shopping mode? I’ll be with him for most of it but he can spend hours upon hours looking at figures and it would be cool to find a nice foot onsen in the area but google maps didn’t show any.
Thank you!
