Submitting several months or years worth of bank statements as part of mortgage application?

Edited to say: thanks everyone for your replies, seems like in general this isn’t requested, or in the worst case, just the past 90 days of bank transactions were requested.

================================

As part of the mortgage application process in Japan, is it standard for the applicant to submit some past bank statements as additional evidence of your income and assets?

I’m not referring to submitting a single recent bank statement to document your current amount of cash, but something like submitting historical statements covering some recent months or even years.

I am asking because I am likely applying for a mortgage in a year or two, but between now and then I need to do some cash movements and overseas remittances, etc. that I worry may just look weird to a bank. I’ve had bad experience with this where the stakes were much lower than a mortgage.\*

If it’s likely that I’ll need to share several years worth of bank statements, then that may change how I fund some of these obligations (ie, I’ll more likely fund these things all outside Japan to avoid doing many remittances from my Japanese accounts)

\* When applying to use Shinsei’s GoRemit service, they wanted me to explain a remittance to a friend for the modest sum of JPY700,000… they then asked me to *share my friend’s bank statements*, a request I was able to push back on, but which was struck me as incredible.
