In America, there were all sorts of discounts when you reached 55. Things like senior menus at Denny’s, and free coffee at Burger King. A favorite of ours was senior bus fares. Do they have anything like that in Japan. I haven’t seen it.
You can get discount or double points when you reach 60+ in some drug stores.
There are way too many senior here, really.
Many facilities has senior admission fee, typically at 65 or 70.
JR has a club mainly for senior couples: Otona no Kyuujitsu Club, 50+, Otonabi, Shikoku Enjoy Club, Hello! Jiyuu Jikan Club. Depend on your local JR, the condition is slightly different.
I know my local bus company, Hankyu, has a Grand Pass 65, which is a monthly pass for 65+ at a pretty steep discount.
The main keyword for senior discount is シルバー割 so that’s the word to look out for.
