If you are coming to Japan during cold weather bring a lighter jacket than you think

My wife and I are currently in Tokyo. We also spent a full day/night in Kawazu for the Sakura blossoms. At least in Tokyo and Kawazu as well….it is kind of cold but not too bad. Temps have been 40-55F each day/night so far.

In the morning and evening when the wind is blowing it will get a bit chilly but that’s it. I have felt much colder in 55-60 degree weather in Texas.

But as to why you need a lighter jacket than you think…..the people here are INSANE. Everywhere you go the locals are wearing huge puffy warm jackets. Every store/izakaya/hotel/anything indoors is blasting heaters beyond belief. No one takes off their jackets anywhere besides restaurants. It is so freaking hot in every building I’ve entered for the last 5 days. My wife was dying in her puffy jacket until she got a super thin jacket from Uniqlo. I brought one thinner jacket and even with that it is unbearable most places we go and I have to take it off.

If it was any colder here to actually require big jackets it would suck even more. Everything is so packed you don’t want to be bulky or lugging around a giant jacket you need to take off anytime you step foot indoors.
