おはよう、
I’m curious to hear from some other SHS ALTs to get some ideas for 45 minute long lessons. At the moment, myself and my co-jet have been creating most of our own lessons from scratch and are finding it hard to make a lesson that is “fun” and engaging yet also has a grammar-point focus or clear objective. Our classes have around 40 students – so it needs to keep everyone engaged and sharing activities can be difficult as our JTE’s have said *everyone* needs to present in front of the class if one person is, to be fair on students.
Our high school is pretty high-achieving and our JTE’s want us to have a very clear objective for the lesson, so the games on the ALTopedia aren’t always applicable, and my school internet has blocked downloading files from it, so it makes it hard to use other people’s resources. Hence why I came here to ask. I’ve definitely looked at some games and have taken notes to try them out – but want to ask here too.
The previous JETs at our school were very experienced and had been at the highschool for 5+ years, from what our JTE’s tell us, they were able to create a game-like lesson that covered the entire 45 minutes. But, we don’t have many of their resources either.
Wondering if anyone knows any ideas to have one game that covers an entire lesson – or develops over one lesson – that has a clear objective and is challenging for 15-16 year old students with good English abilities. We are T1 in the classroom for our lesson and often our JTE’s do not translate into Japanese, so nothing overly complicated.
I’m new to teaching so thought it would be good to get any new ideas for the new school year coming, as I want to create lessons that the students will engage with better. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks.
