International student here, been in Japan for over a year. My Japanese is so-so but I could handle bank registration and everything in Japanese pretty fine. Thinking of staying in Japan quite long-term, possibly doing some investing as well. I have a decent amount (enough to live until I complete my degree) in my current Yucho bank account. Currently thinking of making other bank accounts. So far I see recommendations for SBI Shinsei, SMBC, Rakuten (for securities especially), Sony Bank. So I am thinking of getting a bank account in any of those five. Also, good overseas remittance service is preferred.
