Japanese language fluency influence on your teaching career

I’ll be honest, I came to Japan after only a year of university study in a basic Japanese language course.

Through self study I managed to pass JLPT N2 and could probably survive N1.

What influence does your Japanese language proficiency, either attested by JLPT or BJT scores, have on your teaching career?

Conversely, what influence has it had on your pedagogy, whether you’re teaching English or another subject?
