Public speaking

Speaking in front of an audience has been one of my fears and to be honest, it is one thing I want to overcome and really try to improve on. When I go to events/gigs/shows, I always observe these hosts and Im fascinated by how well they carry themselves. Having confidence is another thing yes, but Im talking about the actual practice of public speaking, like talking to an audience. I think Im okay talking to different people casually, but not to an audience. Can you recommend ways on how/where to get started on this? Are there any specific groups on this matter or who actually teach about public speaking and lets you practice how? Thank you.

  1. There’s no secret to it. People who are good at public speaking are the same as people good at playing the piano. They practice over and over. Now we have mobile phones, it’s never been easier to do by yourself. People who seem to speak with ease, wit and laconic charm have probably memorised every single word, intonation and gesture down pat.

  2. What are you currently working as? And will you be speaking in front of an audience?

  3. You can try recording yourself as you deliver a speech or a presentation and watch for habits and cues. Once you’re comfortable, have someone you trust. Observe you or watch your video to make comments. Congrats on taking a huge step on improving this. I do a lot of outside speaking and presentations but I’m actually an introvert so it takes me a lot and gives me stress.
