Work visa and marriage

Hi!

Me and my partner are both from europe, and plan on moving to Japan in a few years. He is currently working as a software engineer and is finishing his master’s degree. I don’t have degrees, always worked as an artist.

Now I’ve read you need a degree for a working visa. Which means, my partner would get one, but I won’t. Which is a bummer.

But let’s say, we marry. Would that change anything? Could I then come with him under similar conditions or is there anything else I don’t know about? What could I do to be able to live there with him?

Thanks a bunch!

  2. If you’re married, you could follow him under a dependent visa. It has a few caveats like being limited to 28h/week of work but it would allow you to follow him.

  3. Yup, you could live in Japan as his dependent. However you would only be able to work up to 28 hours a week on that visa. If you want a full time job, you’d need to qualify for your own visa.
