Finding ML jobs in Japan from overseas

Over the past two months, I have been submitting my CV to job agents and various companies. All the job agents have rejected my CV without providing any reason, and only two companies have responded. Just recently, I was rejected by a startup company after four rounds of interviews. I am fluent in English and can speak conversational Japanese. Although I have a valid working visa for Japan, I currently reside in my home country. Given the challenges in securing a job in Japan, I’m uncertain about relocating. Should I move to Japan first and then start my job search? Should I include my visa status on my CV?

  2. If you’re looking in a specific area like ML, I would *not* move to Japan without something in hand.

What’s your experience? What companies are you applying to? There are many people on this board who can offer you some tips if we have more detail.

  3. You say you have a valid working visa for Japan, but you also say you’re having difficulty in securing a job in Japan? I’m a bit confused here.

  4. Not from the ML field But As a frontend engineer who moved to Japan and joined a language school from just know Basic Japanese, It’s super hard to find a job here currently, They require at least 3+ years of experience in any technical field and N2 level of JLPT certificate at minimum. I have literally tried every Job board there is, and currently (because I’m dumb and can’t grasp language that well) have about n3 level of spoken Japanese and reading skill. It’s still no way easier for me to get my foot in the door and find a full time frontend react developer position here.
I would highly suggest working up to N3 level Japanese in your home country and coming here after that. Since I barely had enough energy to study Japanese after working long hours of part-time job in order to crack N2, and also it depends on the person, But yeah having 3+ experience in your field will def boost your chances by 3-fold and if you can get N2 level of Japanese by the time you are here (or while studying in a Japanese language school) that will literally would raise your chances of landing a job by … A LOT. Please don’t make the same mistake as I did.
