I’ll be in Japan for a working holiday in the near future. I’ll be starting in Tokyo with 5 weeks at sharehouse before moving elsewhere for a job. I plan to use the 5 weeks to just immerse myself in Tokyo and explore the surrounding area – last time I was there I only scratched the surface.
However, I have no idea how much to budget for this solo time before I start making money again, so I’m hoping to get some advice!
Here’s all the information I can provide:
– Accommodations are already paid for and my flight will be free with points, so no need to include those in budgeting
– I have a Pasmo card from my last trip that I’m happy to use again
– I will technically be a resident of Japan so I won’t be able to get a JR Pass, but I don’t think I’d travel enough to make that worthwhile anyway
– I will have access to a kitchen
– I’m a moderate drinker
– I’m fine with supermarket bento and kombini food, but would also like to cook and splurge for a nice dinner
– I’ll need a haircut and beard trim at some point
– I’ll probably head to Osaka for a few days during these 5 weeks, but I’m fine taking cheaper modes of transit than shinkansen if possible and also staying in a hostel
– I’ve done most of the touristy stuff before so I’m not itching to do it again
With that in mind, any advice on how much money I should have for these 5 weeks? I’m feeling a little lost!
