I didn’t realize what ESIM meant until this morning. Apparently, I have the settings built into my phone to have an ESIM already. So, when I’m about to leave for Japan on June 8th, all I have to do is sign up for Ubigi with a QR code and turn on the ESIM settings on my phone, right?
But my Japan employer has offered to give me a card that I switch manually when I get there. That will give me a Japanese phone number. Which is a requirement while I travel with students.
I really prefer to just use ESIM if I have the capability already.
Another thing is, if I accept the Sim card they give me, it will be paid for by them, not me. So that’s nice. But then, on the other hand, doesn’t that mean they control how much data I have? That’s not nice!
Every time I think I understand this process, it just gets more messy. I really wish Japan would just…let people have Japanese phone numbers through the cloud, or allow burner phones. It would make my life so much easier.
