Hey there!
I’m about to move to Tokyo (working in Taito-ku) for a few years (or who knows how long) for work. I’ve done the homework to understand Japan’s taxes and apartments and move-in expenses, now I’m just wondering what food is like cost-wise.
What’s a typical monthly budget that isn’t too frugal for food? I do like to eat out somewhat often, it’s not the best habit of mine, but I know convenience stores, street food, and supermarkets are relatively cheaper than they are here in the US. Breakfast for me is usually pretty tiny, so I’m really just thinking about lunch and dinner.
I’m seeing 2023 stats of an average monthly cost of food for singles in Tokyo typically ranging from 60,000-70,000 yen. I’ve seen other Reddit posts that claim anywhere from 30,000-50,000. There are obviously so many variables to this, but I’m just here for some real-life experiences and input. So, any insight from someone who’s recently lived in Japan or currently lives there would be really appreciated!
