Hello all,
I am a recent graduate with a degree in Business Information Systems from a U.S. university, and want like a 2 year plan to eventually make it to Japan and live there. I do not have the most experience as of right now, but I am working on it. For context, I am half- Japanese and was born in Japan and have a lot of family there, so I would be comfortable living there. I am also at about Japanese level N3 or N2, (assumption) but I have been speaking Japanese my whole life and I feel like if I moved there, I would pick it all up easily and quickly because it is technically my first language. I’m a U.S. citizen, with an expired Japanese passport (My mom has a Japanese and US passport, and I have no clue how, but I would love to learn how she did that).
The job market in the U.S. is bad, and I am struggling to find a full time position, and I’m sure it is not the best in Japan anyway, but I would like to somehow get my foot in the door. Anyway, I have seen that becoming an ALT is a decent way to get your foot in the door in Japan, but everywhere on Reddit I go, there is just a bunch of posts on why ALT is bad and how horrible pay is and etc. Are there any other ways people got their foot in the door to be able to move to Japan? To add on, are there any job boards online dedicated to finding overseas IT positions for foreigners?
Overall, I would just like the expertise from people in this sub and people going through or have gone through what I want to do.
